The two types of gas heaters you can buy are (1) Natural Gas heating and (2) LPG gas heaters. Each type of gas heater is designed to work safely with only one gas fuel. So you need to ensure buying a gas heater model intended for the type of gas you have at your home. Before buying the gas heater model, double check you’re buying the correct fuel type.
That’s because there are two main differences in the way that natural gas (Methane) and LPG (Propane) heating work – (1) Energy content and (2) Oxygen to gas ratio. For instance, LPG has a higher heat-generating value, so less gas is needed to generate the same heat. The second difference is in the oxygen-to-gas ratio needed for correct combustion.
LPG gas heaters need an oxygen-to-gas ratio of around 25 to 1, whereas natural gas heaters need a ratio of around 10 to 1. So, LPG is provided in a smaller quantity but at a higher pressure, pulling more oxygen into the burner. So it can be hazardous to connect a gas appliance to the incorrect gas type.
3. Don’t Buy a Pricier Gas Heater Model
You should conduct market research and compare for the most competitive price before finalising a gas heater system for your home. 4. Selecting the Incorrect Gas Heater Size
After determining the heater type, you must decide your unit’s size. Each type of gas heater is available in different sizes and heat output features. Please don’t make the mistake of buying a heater that is too small or too big because neither can serve your purpose indoors. You should note that gas input is measured in MJ (MegaJoule) while gas heater output is measured in kW (Kilowatt).
